Our Days in Venice

Well, what can I say except that our days in this unique and fabulous city flew by?  Tuesday, we crossed over the Rialto Bridge to see the Mercato (market) on the other side of the Grand Canal.  The selection of fresh seafood was amazing.

We continued walking staying on that side of the canal gradually making our way through Campo San Polo and Campo San Toma heading toward the Accademia Bridge.  On the way, we saw more picturesque canals and, as well, we dropped into the famous mask store, where I'd gone a mask making demonstration my last time in Venice, called Ca’ Macana.

Then we reached the bridge, we crossed over and headed toward Piazza San Marco but not without stopping to take some iconic shots of the Grand Canal.

We stopped for lunch at a restaurant called Trattoria La Colonete which I gotten to know well on my last time here as it is just around the corner from the apartment I'd rented then.  We sat down just in time as the rains came - and it poured!  Luck has not been on our side when it comes to the weather on this trip!  After lunch, I scurried back to our hotel which, thankfully, was only about a 4 minute walk away.  That didn't mean I didn't arrive there soaking wet, however.  That evening, we just ate at a restaurant across from our hotel as it continued to rain.

Wednesday, our last day here, we wanted to do some last minute shopping.  I am sure I don't need any more glass pendants or bracelets - but I want some!  While Delcie went back over the Rialto Bridge to get a purse adjusted that she'd bought, I sat down at a cafe and ordered a freshly squeezed orange juice.  That cost 9.50 euros - about $15!  What do they say about location, location?

In the late afternoon, we walked back to Piazza San Marco so we could have a drink at the famous Florian's.  Delcie's birthday is shortly after she gets back so I wanted to treat her to a drink there.  Let me just say, absolutely nothing in Venice is cheap - and the prices have gone up considerably since we were last here.  The two drinks and the charge of 6 euros per person to enjoy the orchestra playing cost 50 euros - still, it was a wonderful experience.  For dinner, we went back to Trattoria Le Colonete where I had fegato alla veneziana (liver and onions) - not everyone's "cup of tea" but I really enjoy it.  So, with that, our time in Venice was over.  Delcie headed back home the following day and I made my way to the port of Chioggia to begin my 9-day Azamara cruise on the Quest down the Croatian coast.  More of that to come.
